MAWELL RESORT
With custom lighting solutions, DEKO-LIGHT creates an atmosphere at the Mawell Resort that unites wellness and architecture in perfect harmony – a project that makes light a tangible experience.
LIGHT IN THE ROCK
Stone and wood – these are the main components of the Mawell Resort in Baden-Württemberg, which has been one of Germany’s leading wellness hotels since its opening in 2013. To bring the multi-level hotel to life with its mix of unique design ideas, exclusivity, and sustainable integration into nature, Mawell relied entirely on lighting solutions from DEKO-LIGHT.
IMPLEMENTATION
With the lighting at Mawell, the lighting designers wanted to emulate the dynamics of nature. Everything had to fit seamlessly into the concept of a nature resort. This approach is already apparent upon arrival: cast U-profiles with COB strips visually draw the visitor into the hotel, past solar-powered floor lamps to the reception. In the foyer, the eye is inevitably drawn upward: “supported” by real, floor-to-ceiling tree trunks, the entrance area is dominated by an impressive ceiling structure with flowing lines of light.
The ceiling is also the visual highlight in the tower bar. To trace the dynamics of nature using light, the LED pixel strips with over 3,500 individually controllable pixels were arranged in a matrix and semi-transparently covered by wave-shaped grid nets. The design options range from a calm lounge atmosphere to dynamic wind effects.
No matter where you are in the 12,000 m² wellness area – the attention to detail with which light and nature elements were integrated is extraordinary: from the saltwater grotto with large sandstone blocks and their integrated LED elements to the relaxation pool carved into the rock with synchronized underwater lights to the ceiling made of wooden logs with individual downlights in between.
Another highlight is the 18-meter-long outdoor pool, whose floor is equipped with 250 polymer fiber pixels that can be individually controlled to create wave movements and other colorful effects.
