DEKO-LIGHT OPEN DAYS 2017

On Friday, 02nd. June 2017 our third OPEN DAYS took place. Although we opened only for one day we offered a diversified program.

A large part of the building turned into an exhibition of our new items. All the workshops were overbooked and the DMX Workshop received so much encouragement that it was shifted to our stock area. Kai-Uwe Kayser spoiled our mobile show kitchen with fancy treats. Of course, our barbecue masters gave also their best so that physical welfare was ensured. The cover band “Pirm Jam” joined our After-work party with acoustic music at its finest.

We would like to thank all guests, who have taken the time before the Whitsun weekend. Some even came to us from Italy. We also thank for the stimulating discussions and the open communication.

It was a great event for us all and we look forward to welcoming you to the next time.

Luminale 2016

Luminale 2016 – United in diversity

For the eighth time the “Luminale” in Frankfurt was held and accompanied as biennial of lighting culture, parallel to the convention “light+building”. During the six-day event, visitors were able to see small and large light installations in many public places in Frankfurt and discover the city from completely new angles.
A highlight of the “Luminale 2016” was certainly the staging of the 148 meter high Euro Tower of the European Central Bank [ECB]. Based on the official motto of the European Union “United in diversity” Thomas and Michael Giegerich from “bright” have put with their team the prestigious building in the center of a generic light and projection installation. Initial point was the European anthem – a part of the prelude to the “Ode to Joy” from Beethoven’s 9th symphony.
For the composition of individual, prefabricated video elements the installation of a computer algorithm was provided, the basis of various socio-cultural references [e.g. the number of languages spoken in the EU], always throwing new projections on the façade of the Euro Tower. In this way, the light installation has put the diversity of European society in a mutually interplay with European unity.
For the implementation of the impressive light and projection show a total of 28 projectors came to use. The playback of the video content was carried out by d3-media servers, stacked in 4-stacks.
Each generic, ever-changing design needed a fixed point or a visual base, which gave an accompanying form of diversity and embedding in a harmonious overall picture. For this task “bright” fully trusted on a total of 30 pcs. “AMBITION Chroma LED outdoor wash lights” that were placed on the canopy of Euro Tower and the facade appeared in a harmonious blue.

Thomas Giegerich: “We had a few precautionary test setups and were fully convinced by the “Chromas”. Using the “Chromas” and the light part, the facade projection is an overall presentation of the building”. “And in the pauses in between installations the building breathes downright about the “Chromas” explains Michael Giegerich. A decisive role for “Bright” was besides the light output.

[“Much output for little lamp!”] and the color quality in particular the viewing angle: “Due to the 15° lenses of “Chromas” we can illuminate the building upwards very well.”

Cooperation with SDZeCOM GmbH & Co. KG

In times of multimedia possibilities and new technologies, we also place a great emphasis on a pioneering database-publishing-solution for our media production. Because we constantly expand and update our product portfolio in lighting solutions and thus getting more diverse and also conquering international markets, thus the requirements for the preparation of more extensive prints and online-publication in various languages are rising. Even the immense range of different media channels makes the preparation of the presentation of our product range more complex and more expensive. Therefore we have decided for a cooperation with the company SDZeCOM GmbH & Co. KG. An IT-specialist for a successful product communication. From this collaboration, we hope for in the future, to create information for specific target groups and to tailor and customize our product range to suit your needs. This enables us to get a little closer to our goal to grow to a customer-focused and innovative company. Nevertheless, we do not sit back, but look ahead to the future in order to stay up to date with our products, our service and especially the concerns of our loyal customers.

Kapego LED in Australia

We are proud to announce that our brand “Kapego LED” has now successfully been established on the fifth continent. Kapego LED products were used to let a very special building appear in a new light.
The London Woolstore in Teneriffe is one of Brisbanes oldest and most iconic buildings. It is best known for its architecture, restaurants and now its unique facade lighting. Thanks to Kapego LED the London did get a lighting makeover, ushering the brick masterpiece into the modern world of lighting while keeping its classic appeal and reducing power consumption by 70%.
The executing company “Lightcore Ltd.” was advised and actively supported on site by our product manager Steffen Bux on the realization of this prestigious project. Read below the full story of this unique project.

The initial task was nothing unusual; replace the existing external flood lighting with LED equivalents to reduce power consumption and maintenance expenses.
The original flood lights were 70 watt metal halide lamps which are very common in commercial applications.
Light Core conducted a sampling of different LED outdoor lamps to find a suitable solution. However, they quickly discovered that their ideas were not met by any of the products they tested.
When they tested a 50W LED Floodlight however, they quickly discovered that, due to the large beam angle, the lighting effect did not meet their expectations. Therefore, a better solution had to be found.

It was at this point where Ralph Martell, manager of the London Woolstore said, “It’d be good if we could easily change the color of the building but still have it looking warm when wanted”.

“We can do that” said Dean Brosnan, founder of Lightcore.

Lightcore is a customer of Deko-Light and Dean Brosnan remembered that we recently had published an RGB+W outdoor spot of our own brand “Kapego LED” that would be perfect.

On the meaning of “RGB+W” our product manager Steffen Bux: “It might not seem like much but colour changing LEDs are a mixture of red, green and blue light waves. This means it is impossible to achieve a truly warm or incandescent light from a color changing or RGB LED unless the warm white LEDs are specially designed and integrated within the fitting”.

The fitting Lightcore decided to use was the 20 watt Kapego LED RGB+W Powerspot external spot light with a 30 degree beam angle. By focusing the light it meant they could reduce the power consumption while simultaneously increasing the light onto the building.

The next step was deciding how the lighting would be controlled. While it is a commercial sized building Lightcore didn’t want to have expensive and confusing control systems and wanted to keep things simple and easy.

The solution came in the form of the Kapego Color & White RF controller.

To distribute the load for a total of 13 Kapego LED RGB + W Power Spots, two 240W power supplies from Mean Well and two Kapego Color & White RF controller were used.

“For applications like this,” says Steffen Bux “we had the RF controller equipped with a master-slave function (network capacity).”

This means that all lights can be controlled synchronously and without delay. The connection is made using a commercially available CAT5 cable.
To this end, Dean Martell, executive electrician of the project: ” It was a very straight forward installation, a lot easier than other control systems I’ve seen for projects of this size”.

The end result is a building that requires less power for its entire facade lighting as a single apartment within the complex, that can display thousands of colors while retaining the option to the original incandescent warm light, and all with the push of a wireless remote.

I love it!” Ralph Martell
